Reducing waste, supporting families, strengthening community

Community Fridge – Fresh Start Charity

Our Community Fridge in Ipswich is here to support local people who need a helping hand. Open to everyone, the fridge provides free food, fresh produce and essential items that have been donated by supermarkets, businesses and the community. It’s part of our mission at Fresh Start Charity to reduce food waste and make sure no one in Ipswich goes hungry.

Whether you’re facing financial hardship, struggling to make ends meet, or simply want to stop good food from going to waste, our Ipswich Community Fridge is here for you.

How it works

  • Take what you need – If you live in Ipswich or the surrounding area, you can access the fridge and choose from a range of food and household essentials, no referral required.

  • Give what you can – Local people, shops and businesses can donate surplus food, tinned goods, toiletries and other items to keep the fridge stocked. Every contribution makes a difference.

  • Community first – By sharing food, we not only support families but also build stronger connections across Ipswich.

  • We collect surplus food from Sainbury's, Makro, Bookers, Aldi, Asda to distribute to those that need it.

  • We also provide free Sanitary products to those in need.
